Write Your Best One Hour TV Pilot with Caitlin

Whether it’s a criminal procedural like Law & Order, gothic literary monsters come to life in Penny Dreadful or the teen screams of The Vampire Diaries, one hour dramas are a huge part of the current television and streaming landscape. Isn’t it time you wrote your one hour TV pilot?

In this intensive ten week workshop, participants will go from concept to completed draft of an original one hour TV pilot in any genre with the professional guidance and support of veteran producer and TV and feature writer Caitlin D. Fryers (Wynnona Earp, Private Eyes).

First, through writing exercises and group discussion, Caitlin will help workshop participants identify an impactful premise and universal theme. Next, it’s on to creating characters that will become the vessels through which that theme will be explored. Caitlin will then help you craft a narrative structure that will challenge and illuminate those characters leading to a completed script that will act as a springboard for a long running show or tightly wound limited series.

Not only will you learn about concept, theme, premise, characters and structure, but Caitlin will also help you learn how to best receive, and deliver, notes; develop a series bible; pitch your show to buyers and how to rewrite to best implement the notes you receive.

In essence, Caitlin will act as your “showrunner” as you and your classmates do your weekly work of reading and commenting on each others’ synopsis, beat sheet, character bios and script pages. Not only will Caitlin and your classmates give you weekly feedback, but Caitlin will do a final read of your completed pilot script and do a one on one meeting with you to discuss your completed script and suggest next steps for rewriting and moving closer to your goal of selling your script and/or getting staffed on a show.

Whether a police procedural, a family drama, an exciting espionage thriller, or a terrifying look into the world of supernatural horror, one hour pilots are a vital piece of your writer portfolio. And there’s no better way to start or expand your portfolio by joining award-winning writer Caitlin Fryers in this dynamic ten week workshop.
