What Comes First, the Outline or the Script?

If you want to set yourself up for success with your script the answer is THE OUTLINE. Join writer Chuck Kim (NBC’s HEROES, BEN 10, DEXTER’S LABORATORY) as he takes you through the story outline and character development process over six weeks in a live, supportive, and highly collaborative online workshop.

While many screenwriting workshops rush immediately to script pages, this class instead will focus on building your characters, their motivations, and their emotional arcs first, then testing those characters through an engaging outline of the narrative of your screenplay.

Through lectures, screenings and writing exercises, workshop participants will instill their characters with irresistible drives, compelling hopes and heart-wrenching flaws. Then Chuck and your classmates will help you refine your concept, map out your main plot, infuse your subplots with conflict and identify and amplify your screenplay’s theme.

Whether you’re a novice or a seasoned writer, this workshop offers a supportive environment for creative exploration and growth. By the end of the six weeks, you'll have a complete outline of a compelling narrative populated by complex and engaging characters and giving you a head start to success with the writing of your script.

This six-week live workshop meets on Thursdays via Zoom from 6pm to 9pm PST starting Thursday, April 25th.

The workshop is capped at 10 writers. The fee is $699. We accept payment via credit card and payment plans are available.
